Well here's my report. About a week ago I got a Sony Ericson GC83 Edge card from Cingular. As it turned out, the card was free after rebate. The service is a stiff $79.99 per month for unlimited service. I've been testing this pretty extensively around my home town and gotten transfer rates of around 100Kbps pretty consistantly. It doesn't seem to be affected by signal strength. It seems that if you have a signal (at least here in north central IN) then the transfer rate is pretty well the same. I'll be taking it to the boat in Athens AL around the end of Feb and I'll report back those results. Given the alternatives and my need for a remote connection to my office, I'm satisfied with these results. I'll keep everyone posted.
