Question Yanmar Question

Where is the oil filter on a 3jh2e engine and is it supposed to have 2 fuel filters on the starboard side of the engine? I'm about to do my first oil change and it looks to be a little more of a task than my car. Also, I see 2 oil caps. The top seems to obviously be the engine crank case oil. What is the lower cap down on the right side of the engine? Thanks for helping if you can.

Re: Yanmar question.

You should have an operations manual, at a minimum, which will probably answer your questions. One can probably be downloaded from boatdiesel.com, but you may have to spring for a membership. You can also download a service manual from that site.

Re: Yanmar question.

Maybe this will help, a top view drawing and component picture. BTW there is also a oil filler cap on top of the rocker arm cover.

Re: Yanmar question.

Speedoo is right, you really should have an operators manual.
On our 3JH2 engine, both yellow caps are oil fillers. The side one is easier to use if you are short of top clearance.
There should be one fuel filter, reasonably high up on the side that does not have the starter motor. On that same side, lower down and about half way along the engine is the oil filter.
Regards,
Richard.

Holly smokes! Whoever did the last oil change on this (last owner?) Put a fuel filter in place of the oil filter! This can't be good. I'll be getting that service manual asap.
