Thanks everyone!
Hope you have a good passage.

Re: Asking for weather advice going from Victoria to San Francisco tomorrow

I'm currently about 5 hours North out of San Francisco. We left Seattle on Sunday afternoon. We had to duck into Port Orford Wed night seeking refuge from gale force winds and nasty, breaking seas.

Someone earlier mentioned calling the Coast Guard while enroute and they have been very helpful to us.

With only two exceptions (South of Point Arenas and Shelter Cove,) we've actually had seamless mobile coverage and have had data coverage at very high speed on Verizon up to 30 miles offshore. If you're on T-Mobile you will be out of luck.

Good luck

Re: Asking for weather advice going from Victoria to San Francisco tomorrow

Having cut my teeth trolling on the Swftsure bank when there was a lightship out there and hauling black oil barges to Tofino, Ucluyet and logging camps up Nootka Inlet and the Brooks Peninsula area for 4-5 winters, my advice is to listen to the natives in either Neah Bay or The Barclay Sound area. The fancy new weather apps are only good if west coast weather behaves according to their book!
As you head out from Neah, you will hit a confused sea for about 25-30 nm then get into the Pacific roll. That's when you hang a left and should broad reach all the way to the Potato patch off SF. Wind and tides will exacerbate the rough ride depending on when you leave but for goodness sake do NOT try and sneak behind Tatoosh Island to avoid the sea. Pay your dues and head for Japan until you feel the pacific roll. Have a great trip... Phil
