Bremerton WA to Portland, OR advice?

I just bought a Catalina 27 with a 2001 15hp Honda 4stroke for power in Port Orchard WA and will sail it down the Washington coast to Astoria and then up the Columbia river to to Kalama, WA. I would like to do this in the early part or middle of May. Any and all advice about this trip would be appreciated.

Try to cross the Columbia river bar at near slack tide.

Last August I left Everett, Wa. the first night out from Port Townsend - Port Angles was nose on to the wind w/ 12-14' wind waves. pretty rough trip. Would not make that particular part of the trip at night again. next day made it to Neah Bay, smooth trip, spent the night to get rest. On down the west coast of Washington was a nice trip. Be careful on crossing the bar at Columbia River [ known as the bar of broken dreams] Call Coast Gaurd for bar conditions. Try to cross at slack tide to avoid rough conditions and heavy current. I will be at Warrenton, or. dock H 25. seven miles up river. If you have time to stop for the night, we will be having a BBQ as in every night till we head south. If you stop I'll give you my cell #, please let us know. also have tide tables & could give tide times by phone when you are close.. Will you have crew?...Michael..

Re: Bremerton WA to Portland, OR advice?

Hi Michael

Thanks for the advise. My son and I will be making the trip. I plan to moor in Astoria for a while. You got me thinking about Warrenton. Are there slips available for a 38 foot overall boat? What do they run?

I may well take you up on the offer to stop by

Thanks

Brad
