Chartering in Vietnam or Thailand

I'm thinking of renting a sailboat in either of these countries. Does someone have experience there? Charter companies? Don't tell me Sunsail. Their prices are out there.

The latest I understand is that Vietnam still requires a Skipper, no bareboating but everyone is hoping it changes.

There are a lot of charterers in Phuket including Sunsail, but you can avoid them if you like. There is also chartering in Langkawi (Malaysia) which is in similar climate to Phuket.

My strong vote would be Phuket.

I will add a caveat if you have not spent much time in Asia. Do not expect things to go like clockwork or to happen fast. Be specific in your requests and ask to be "readback" to. You may say, "I want a, b and c." They say, "Yes, yes and yes." You think they got it but if you are lucky they got a.

Also lot's of Asia works at island speed. And that's in the cities. Imagine how fast things are in the islands.

Google charter Phuket Thailand or similar and you will get lot's of hits. If you narrow down a choce or 3 let me know and I will poke around with friends to judge the reputations.

I'll forget Vietnam if I can't bareboat. Thailand should be nice. I spent 6 months there a few years ago. I'm thinking a 3 weeks trip with a week sailing in the middle.
