If you go into Streaky Bay, shopping is good. Very nice spot.
I don't know how to message you on this forum but a good friend has written an excellent blog on this stretch of coast.
Hi Teeto, please share the link to your friend's blog post. It would be great to have more accessible information about this stretch of the coast.

I've sailed over to Lincoln from Adelaide, but Coffin Bay and beyond is still on my "to sail" list.

Good shellfish in Coffin Bay, good snapper grounds at some nearby undersea pinnacles and pretty shallow in the bay from memory. I was there in a cat, great spot not many people around.

Teeto,
We loaned our car to a few people who sailed in to Coffins, you may have been on of them.
Cheers

Some very hospitable towns and yacht clubs in that part of the world especially towards sailors which is fantastic.

A chart would confirm it but from memory you wouldn't want to draw more than 1.8m and mostly you will be restricted to the channel which is marked. High tide is going to be best.

Still very worth going there if you are in the area. Some great beaches too.

Re: Cruising South Australia: Kangaroo Island anchorages

Earlier this year I sailed along the South Coast of the Kangaroo Island as part of a circumnavigation of the island.

Vivonne Bay is noteworthy as it is most protected anchorage on the South Coast, providing shelter from all directions but E or SE winds. It might even be possible to ride out a SE by tucking in very close between the jetty and Point Ellen. See attached map.

That said, pick your weather window carefully if you plan to sail the South Coast. There is nothing between you and Antarctica!
