From Hong Kong to Thailand via Disaster

Don't know if this will work, but here's the first page of the story in SEA Yachting as a pdf file:

Well, obviously that didn't work. I should be able to post a link soon in any case.

Ok, the story is ready to go on asap, the AP's newspaper Web site, sometime next week. I'd wait until I knew the exact day (I don't now), but I am going to be out of contact next week (in the Malaysian jungle!).

So, watch this space. It will run in three parts with photos and video. After it's live, it will still be accessible in the archives:

http://asap.ap.org/fronts/home.s

Happy reading,
Scott

Here’s a link to “

What’s the title to watch for, on the AP site?

SEA Yachting” - Southeast Asia's yachting & marine industry magazine
http://www.seayachting.net/
in which Scott Neuman is listed as a contributer. Unfortunately, I cannot get past the welcome page.

Hi Gord,

I don't even know the title yet, but it should be pretty easy to find, I would think. It will be the only sailing story on the page.

... as for SEA Yachting, unfortunately, the Web site is just promo. That's why I was (earlier) trying to scan the magazine article and post it. Finally decided it was easier to wait and post link to the AP story instead.

Cheers,
Scott

ok, finally here it is. unfortunately many of the "yachtie" details that would have been interesting (maybe) to this board have been excised in the interest of making it more agreeable to a general audience:http://asap.ap.org/stories/510321.s

Well sneuman.

Consider yourself & your friend, very lucky guys!!

Typhoons or hurricanes, are nothing to really under estimate. And IMHO. I would not have set out. If there were a "questionable" low pressure point out over the sailing vessels course. Epspecially, during that time of the year!!!

This is the problem in the S. China Sea. While "typhoon season" was officially over as we set out, there are suspicious lows in the region year round. If we'd waited another month, winter monsoon would have guaranteed frequently monsterous waves, something we had hoped to avoid. then, the flip side of winter monsoon starts typhoon season all over again. not at all to pass the buck, but the forecasters were thinking the same thing we were as we set out: i.e., that the storm would track straight west. we were both wrong.
