Galapagos to Marquesas

Hi all.
Can somebody please advise me if sailing this passage during march is wise?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Galapagos to Marquesas

think their is still a probability of cyclones in march, but if a threat stay within 10 degrees of the equator, very rainy and no wind,se,lies much further south.

see the pilot charts

As Atoll suggests, the cyclone season is 'officially' over in April; BUT the risk of a march cyclone between the Galapagos and Marquesas is very low - they don't typically come that far east and the Galapagos are right on the equator so in the worst case you can always turn north and get right out of the path. I personally would be ok with a March departure from the Galapagos. The last time we did that route we left March 25th, but I would still be fine with a week or two earlier earlier.

Just fyi . . . when you leave the Galapagos, quite often you need to get a day or so south before you pick up the trade winds.

An excellent source for answers to question like this is: Jimmy Cornell's World Cruising Routes. It has information on when to be and when NOT to be in a certain area of the world, including currents, weather, waypoints.
