Hong Kong boat search

Hi There,

I have just moved to HK and love it here so far. Looking to get back into sailing but finding it hard to a) find a 20 - 30 foot used sailboat in somewhat good shape at a reasonable price and b) find a mooring for said boat. I've owned a J-24, Catalina, 22, Catalina 25, Trapper 30, Beneteau Oceanis 31 and a Beneteau First 36.7.

Any help / advice / tips would be greatly appreciated.

PS - I'm not opposed to buying a 1/2 or 1/4 share of a boat either. So if anyone has a sailboat in HK and is looking to split the bills, please let me know!

Spend time at the yacht clubs, crew for people, and talk to everyone you meet. When I lived there most boats sold by word of mouth to friends, or via club notice boards.

I sailed Hobie Cats in HKG for several years. There was (and I believe still is ) a very active club across the bay from Stanley Village. They run a ferry across to the club from Stanley Main Beach at weekends.

There are also a couple of good brokers in HKG. Try calling Garry at Saffron Marina brokers in Aberdeen. I had some conversations with him last year and he was very helpful.

I was in HKG for the weekend in late Nov. I would go back tomorrow to live if somebody would offer me the right job!
