I could say the same of Sydney
Sewerage pumped into the oceans
Cemetery right on the water leaching into the sea
Plus the cost of living there is some of the highest in the world

At least in Asia you can live there for a tenth of the price.

It has its unique charm, certainly not for everybody but I like it. I find most Asian people quite humble (not nessacarlly the big cities) , I find aggression in Australian has risen, didn't notice it until I come back from Asia.

Also as mentioned it's cheaper, this often can add to quality and of life.

Some can't or won't adjust to the culture shock, they like the sterility we've grown a custom to.

I love Asia, both the good and the bad!
The rich cultural History
The Food.
The Diversity of beliefs
The Coral Triangle for diving
..and to be perfectly honest....
...the women are beautiful, smart, ambitious, yet most appreciative and supportive of a good man's effort to love them.

Australia on the other hand has the cultural history of feral convicts and scallywags, who amazingly prospered primarily thru their association with the old country and Commonwealth.

Each to their own!

Re: MALAYSIA as a Home Base?

Record numbers of Asian women using contraception!

No wonder you see no babies or pregnant women in Thailand, Vietnam, or Republic Korea. No population replacement there or in Japan, Singapore etc.

And look at the potential demographic change coming in Cambodia, Nepal, Bangladesh ...

Those old concepts of too many people are or have changed.

No blue sky time today. It's Microsoft Patch Tuesday. Which means waiting for PCs to reboot and then running a test suite and reconfig suite.

An interesting but obscure patch fixing a bug in credential security for remote management in this month's patches.

I don't think much has been published since the 2009 work funded by USAid. See:

Re: MALAYSIA as a Home Base?

Malaysia has been my 'home base' the last 8 years. Bought a Condo (NOT in Johor the concrete jungle), and also a small Cat.

Can sail up to Thailand or further afield easily, and we have excellent air links to anywhere on the planet.

With the new government, I believe things will change for the better. The new PM was the guy who previously set up the local marina's and was keen on maintaining them and attracting the cruising crowd..

Subic is not a bad place to be based though,we might end up over that way.

Want to swap?

Quite a few people have said positive things about the new leadership, so I hope it happens.
Where exactly do you have your Condo? Is it associated with a marina?

We are in Saujana Resort ,which is close to Subang Airport ,17 km from KLCC.It is around 30 mins from Port Klang, where there is a Marina but right now the boat is in Penang,a 40 min flight or 3 1/2 hour drive.
