Marina del Rey to Alameda

Have a 32' GB Trawler and would like to know where would be the best stops for the MDR to Alameda voyage?? Has anyone completed this? And if so what is the preferred path/route??

Lots of choices. Preference for anchoring or marinas?

Oxnard, Ventura, Santa Barbara marinas, Cojo anchorag by Pt. Arguello for weather, Port San Luis or Morro Bay for moorings, San Simeon for anchoage, Monterey or Moss Landing or Santa Cruz marinas in Monterey Bay, Half Moon Bay (Pillar Point) marina, then SF...
As few as two, as many as ??? days, depends on weather and determination...

Re: Marina del Rey to Alameda

I made that trip last August I left Kings Harbor Yacht Club and spent a night at Channel Islands yacht club , If your a yacht club member you have reciprical privlidges in most clubs so I had a nice slip there, From there I headed to Santa Barbara. From Sant Barbara I made it to Point Conception for an overnight anchor. I used a 45Lb CQR and the only good anchor set was at N34 26 45.6 W120 26 52.4 it was forward and to the right of Mr Clean a large oil surface cleaner ship. I tried getting more inside the anchorage but you I needed a Good Danforth anchor for that it is hard pan and kelp. You can make it to Port San Louis and anchored between the Avila Warf and the Cal Poli Marine Lab Warf it has good sand and I was able to dig in good So I could get a good night sleep. I was single handing for this journey so sleep was paramont. I left at 0300 AM and made it to San Simeon Bay by 1800, 6PM, San Simon has this wind that picks up to 25 knots by 1300 1PM and last until 6PM so when anchoring get in close between the warf and the cliff and dig in deep and you'll be fine. I left at 5am and had to botor sail to Moss Landing, it took 29 hours. Monterey Harbor is closer when entering Monterey Bay and they have 24 hour security and will help you get in to a safe slip. Also the Coasties are there to. Cheers
