pirate North of Papua New Guinea

Anyone been cruising north of Papua New Guinea? It's one of the best locations for scuba diving in the world and I want to go there instead of going through the Torres Strait when cruising around the world.

Is it easy to get from PNG to Indonesia going north of Guinea or have the governments made it difficult?

hi G,

I sailed engineless into Indonesia from North of New Guinea
(Palau) through the Molucca Passage
between Sulawesi anbd Halmahera
to the Banda Sea
in March1996.
No problems with officials
but paranoia(pirates)
and too early change in the monsoon season.

Great, though!

Peter, your website was good reading. A friend of mine completed his circumnavigation on a 24 footer that he built himself. Took him 7 or 8 years I think. He had no problems in Indonesia. Said he was well looked after by the locals including the acting harbor master.
