Polynesia Trip Down to Rapa Iti and Back

Hi Folks,
I am looking for a boat to join in for a round trip adventure to Rapa Iti Island in the Southern Australs group, French Polynesia.
I have scientific interest in marinelife there where so few have ever gone to dive seriously.
Ideally we would leave from somewhere in Polynesia North of Rapa and return in a week or so.
I could chip in about "a grand for gas."
I'm leaving for Tahiti soon.
Sincerely,
Steve

Good luck with that. You know it is cyclone season until the end of april and probably later this year because of an extra strong La Nina? A boat would have to check in at Papeete first then it is about 870 miles say a week sailing. I doubt there would be many offering.
There is a freighter running, the Tuhaa Pae but the frequency is uncertain 2 weeks -2 months. Fare is E67 deck or 392 in comfort each way.
There is a reef check programme although it is unclear how much it covers at this stage which might be worth checking out.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the message. So Hurricane season is reversed down there?
In Baja its May til Nov...
Thanks. I heard the Tuhaa Pae has cut back even more....plus, if it drops you off, you are stuck til it comes back.
I imagine when people think Tahiti they don't think bad weather and cold water but thats also what gives Rapa its more unique fishlife.
Thanks,
Steve

Wow....I guess the last outpost down South of Tahiti isn't well traveled.
Is it inappropriate to offer $ to local boats in the area and who may be in need?
Or is there a better section to beg and plead...?

your best bet would be to rent a bare boat from one of the charter companys, cheap rates at this time of year, sunsail or the moorings out of riatea, about $1500 a week

There was a nice boat Katharsis there but not now anymore. Contact them and ask if they know anybody sailing to / at that location now.
