Portland, OR to Columbia River Bar

I'd surely like to see any/all comments about the river passage from Portland down to the Pacific. I have no idea what is there/involved, but we are intrigued with the Vancouver, WA area. Can I indeed sail up the Columbia to Vancouver?

Thanks in advance...

Not exactly helpful, but there are some good photos here, and at least the perspective of another boater albeit Power.

????
Vancouver,WA is directly across the Columbia River from Portland,OR. No "river passage to the Pacific" involved. Are you thinking of Vancouver, BC? As in Canada?

Well it's not really a sail. You will be fighting the current all the way right now the Columbia is running 3 -5 kts. You will get some tidal push. Lots of places to stop. The stretch around Longview is boring. It is 110 river miles to Portland from the bar, I have done the trip more times then I can count.
First of August I will be heading from Portland to Astoria on my way to Barkley sound

Re: Portland, OR to Columbia River Bar

Thanks to all.

Elysium, the pix are very interesting. Appreciate it very much.

pdxsailordiver, one of the things I wondered about was speed of the current. We go to Vancouver and stay right on the river. We can see boats sail/motor against the current, turn around and go down river, then start over again.

KunckleDragger, no, I am in fact talking about Vancouver, WA / Portland, OR, and the river trip from there to the Pacific (and back - LOL)
