Thumbs up Pt Davey & Bathurst Harbour, Tasmania

Hi guys!

We've just returned from three weeks in the South West wilderness of Tasmania. It was our first trip to this special place and we had an incredible time. Some photos and a trip report are up on our blog here.

I think we're are totally spoiled for future cruising destinations after spending the last 5 months in beautiful Tasmania! Its been a blast, but we are well and truly ready for some warmer weather - winter is coming* and we are on a fast track back across Bass Strait in the next couple of weeks.

Safe and happy travels everyone!

Re: Pt Davey & Bathurst Harbour, Tasmania

G'Day Blue Suns,

Wow, are you tough... or at least not bothered by frigid temps. We bailed almost a month ago and are blissfully enjoying mid-twenties here in the Pittwater (soon to be stuffed by a cold front, though). Further northing awaits...

Port Davey is indeed a special place and we were very sorry that a broken boom and moribund batteries thwarted our intended trip out west for the past season. None the less, the summer in Tassie was pretty good this year, and I'm sure we will return yet again. Maybe we will see ya there.

Cheers,

Jim

Great pics, we must do Tasmania soon as well. We are avid watchers of the "throne" series on Austar, top show.

Coops.

Definitely not tough or unbothered - the barometer says its 5 degrees C in the cabin this morning, and there is snow on Mt Wellington behind us! Its time for us to head North too Jim - mid-twenties sounds like heaven. Hope to meet you somewhere along the coast!

Hey Coops - isnt it great? We have been watching Season 2. I definitely recommend reading the books too - its completely addictive! This is coming from someone who hasn't read "high fantasy" since she was about 14 years old. Anyway... a little off-topic for a sailing forum, but ... meh!

Great blog...thanks! Our current plan is to go to Tasmania the end of this year, so we are just starting to collect information/guides/etc. Your pictures helped with the excitement of visiting Tasmania.
After sailing around southern New Zealand this year we find we love the out of the way, seldom visited places the most!

Re: Pt Davey & Bathurst Harbour, Tasmania

Hi Jim - you will love Tassie, there is always somewhere nearby where you can escape the crowds and the summers are just beautiful.

We used three cruising guides - Brettingham-Moore's "Cruising Tasmania", the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania's "Tasmanian Anchorage Guide" and the Cruising Yacht Club of Tasmania's "D'Entrecasteaux Waterways". All were useful. Also, Service Tasmania sells a guide called "Port Davey Marine Reserve Map and Notes" for $25 which is worth getting hold of.

Good luck with your plans!

Cait
