Rarotonga: why not Muri Lagoon?

I've read many similar comments about Raro, that the harbor in Avarua is small and rough seas.

On the other side though, Muri Lagoon is quite quiet. And I've noted that good sized fishing boats dock in there, so one must assume a sailboat can get into there. So hasn't anyone tried anchoring in quiet Muri Lagoon?

afaik the Swales spent some time there before setting off on their epic round-Cape-Horn voyage, was fairly shallow draft, their cat...

Cats can get in there. I saw one there this year..
I didn't look at the entrance closely enough to see if a keel boat could actually get in the entrance, but it did look possible. Worth a closer look.

Haven’t been there, but the charts don’t look promising (although the area seems to be poorly surveyed). It will also get the full force of the SE Trades. Photos on Google maps suggest small, narrow entrance, and shallow.
