Schooner Nina

The Independent Review of the search for the Schooner Nina can be found at the following link.

http://www.maritimenz.govt.nz/News/M...-June-2014.pdf

It's about 131 pages long and I thought very well done.

Sincerely,
Cherie Martinez (Friend of Nina)

Re: Schooner Nina

Extending my sympathies and condolences to friends and family. Also, thank you for the link. Have already read through about half of the report, and recommend it to others on this forum. It gives a good outline of the chronology of the recent tragedy of the Schooner Nina, and it also gives some information about how SAR operations are conducted, both in the general sense, and also in the specific one (Nina), from the inside perspective relative to NZ SAR teams.

Again, sorry for your loss.

Re: Schooner Nina

Also an interesting comparison (in part) to MH370 on page 68 of this report.

Re: Schooner Nina

I will have to look on page 68. It's a lot of information. I read through once and will be continuing until all absorbed. MH 370 looking back was not smooth sailing even with all the resources they had.

I am new here. I saw your stickie notice of missing yacht. I assume from this thread the boat and crew were lost???

Is there a one page summary here or can you give synopsis so one does not need to download the 130 page PDF?

Just curious.

Vessel and crew (7) lost without trace, June 2013, enroute from New Zealand to Australia.

Name of the 1928 wooden schooner was the "Nina".

Thank you for sharing the report with us. I sincerely hope that it has helped you and the other families to find some closure. The tragic loss of life is very saddening. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Re: Schooner Nina

Thank you, I hope most of the recommendations get adopted. May at the time be onerous but when things really get bad, glad to have extra emergency backups I would think. Plus several months ago the US only did 2 days of search for the yacht going across the Atlantic from Antigua. The owners had been in communications and coordinates with yacht and still couldn't find it or the survivors!
