Tahiti in March/April?

Hi all,

We're considering a charter in Tahiti this March or April. We've never sailed in the South Pacific.

Can anyone tell me about the weather during this period from personal experience? I am concerned about going all the way there for a week and getting rained out.

Any insight is appreciated.

Re: Tahiti in March/April?

March/April is halfway in between the rainy and dry seasons. Be pretty bad luck to get rained out for an entire week, pretty unusual to get no rain at all. April would be better than March.

Thanks, Captn Caveman. That was what I was thinking... sounds like it's just kind of a roll of the dice, but we'd be pretty unlucky to get totally rained out.

Re: Tahiti in March/April?

When we left Cabo for FP in March, it would have been April by the time we got to Papeete. It often rained for a while in the afternoon. But it was not like a normal rain storm with a frontal passage, raining for hours. It was just for a couple of hours. Not a biggie. When it clouds up, you go somewhere there is shelter (perhaps only the boat), and do something different for a while. The rain is a welcome blessing. Just remember to close the hatches when you leave the boat. It's really hard to dry bedding for the night in the late afternoon.
