Tahiti to Cairns

I am moving a 40 ft ex charter Beneteau from Tahiti to Cairns and would like some advice.

I have a crew of 3 and between us we have a fair amount of coastal and some Ocean experience.

We are planning the route Raiatea, Bora Bora, Rarotonga, Tonga, Vanua Levu, Vanuatu, Cairns.

Timing is the issue. There is no real hurry to do this, but what would be the ideal time to leave Tahiti, and when would be the most ill advised?

Any other suggestions would be gratefully received.

Thanks in advance

Alan

When to leave depends a bit on your expected duration of the voyage.
I recommend leaving in time to ARRIVE in Cairns no later than end of October.
Of course, now would be a very good time to leave .

True, but I can"t leave Australia till mid November due to work commitments.
Maybe just hang there until March and get te crew out then. I suppose it will give me time to get it ready!

March is still very much Cyclone season, I would wait a bit longer. I did a trip in March a year ago from Brisbane across, it was mirror calm as in zero wind, but in the weeks leading up to it there were lows and a cyclone spinning around and a couple of weeks after our arrival there was a cyclone went through Vanuatu.

I think about mid April there was another Cyclone went through Vanuatu as well

March is too early to leave if you wish to make sure you miss the cyclone season. I'd wait for the end of April
