Going to Through the Suez to Houghada in Late February

Hi....We originally gave up on going to the Red Sea but have been talked into it again by our fellow Marina resident, Walter, whilst wintering in Karpaz Gate Marina. So we are hatching a new plan to take our Lagoon 421 to Houghada, leaving from Cyprus in late February. We figure the Suez Canal is safe from ISIS - and Houghada is away from the Sinai Peninsula.

Has anyone gone down there recently?

Would you recommend doing this trip or do you think its unsafe to do so? All opinions and advice welcome.

Finally, we are looking for some extra crew. Let us know if you are interested.

Re: Going to Through the Suez to Houghada in Late February

Hi Steve
I cant help directly with your question as Ive not done the canal/Red Sea but If I were in your position I would be happy to go as far as Hurghada. Are you headed for Abu Tig ?
BTW - I was in Karpaz Gate with my own boat in June as part of the EMYR rally, and sailed on to Israel with friends afterwards. We came back in Sept to move my boat back to Turkey - currently berthed in Finike.

A visit to The Red Sea has been on my bucket list since I first started diving (last century) so If you do decide to do it and are short of crew I would be interested in signing on. PM me if you'd like to take it any further and I can send you a sailing CV
Regards
Steve

Hi Steve

Certainly interested in your sailing CV. There are a couple of people in Karpaz that are also considering coming along but are by no means certainties. I am also waiting on Topsail Insurance to get back to us to see what the incremental insurance costs will be.

email us at steve at lamischief dot com.

Do you know Sean and Sherrie from Element? (Catana Cat) - they are also wintering in Finike.

Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve
I'm afraid I don't know Sean & Sherrie @ Finike. We didn't actually spend a great deal of time there in Sept/Oct. We just put the boat to bed for winter and came back to the UK. Don't suppose you've bumped into Lammert & Sue from S/Y Makena ? Makena is still in KPG having been struck by lightening in Sept.
Regards
Steve

PS CV on the way (Once Ive typed it )
