All these replies are right. Don't rush it and enjoy all the little towns along the way. Don't do the icw at nite. Especially with your draft. And the magenta line on your GPS is showing the deep part of the channel.

Hi, I'm Sonny, USCG Master 100 ton. I made the trip from Baltimore to Jacksonville, Fl a few years ago on my C & C 38. I would like to know more of your plans, etc.

Email would be best for me.

Re: Annapolis To St Mary's

I'd be concerned about shoaling in the ICW given your draft.

Spend the next two months cruising the bay, go to the sailboat show and then head to Norfolk.

Wait and go early November so you have lower chances of bad weather and do something like the Arc Bahamas.

I can help getting from Annapolis to Norfolk anytime as an overnighter except end of October, I am am delivering a Cat that last week.

Re: Annapolis To St Mary's

Greetings:

Our time frames match up nicely. Mid September or Mid October would be good start dates for me. I'm a 70 y/o recreational sailor with several thousand miles and more than a few months under my belt. Most of my sailing has been coastal or offshore, but I can follow a chart and decypher the bouyage so drop me a line if you are still looking for crew.

Re: Annapolis To St Mary's

Keep your schedule flexible and allow some laydays. The schedule is a sailor's worst enemy.

Don't follow the magenta line like it's some gospel. Two reasons, one get off the line and see some of the sights, this is very true in the Carolinas. There are over 10 towns with free docks on the Albemarle Sound, check some out. The other reason, you should only use the line as a ref/guild and rely on the nav aides as your primary reference. Allso look for shoals around inlets, checking with Active Capt'n. Saw a guy delivering his new custom built 50ft'r and was following the magenta line. He ran right up on an oyster bar at 20kts and tore up his Volvo IPS drives. The magenta line was 80ft out of the channel marked with new buoys. Things move and shoal up faster than they can re-chart.

This will be a great trip for your family. 50 years ago my dad bought a sailboat with zero experience. We picked the boat up and after a 15min lesson sailed the boat back home down the bay. Safe passage.

If you want to do this in two weeks I suggest prayer. Might work.
