FYI. United Airlines guidance to flights to Cuba.

Cuba: Travel restrictions
Non-humanitarian flights to Cuba are suspended.

Re: Desperate to get to Cuba!

I am wondering if the OP could hire a Cuban Captain to pilot the boat out of Cuban waters ? Meet him at sea and go from there. Another Cuban boat could pick him up and return him. Or possibly find a helpful ear at a Cuban consulate and try to get an extension. They can’t expect you to move the boat yourself if you can’t be there.

I would be thoroughly indebted to whomever that would take me on as crew to anywhere in Cuba to save my boat.

I do not understand the 'commandeered ' part. And what repairs and why?

Cuban captain could not likely leave Cuban waters.

Re: Desperate to get to Cuba!

I can't help you with a crew position but I found flights from Costa Rica to Cuba for a few hundred bucks. Your profile states that you are in Costa Rica not the USA. Thx-Ace

Re: Desperate to get to Cuba!

To the OP: I believe the substance of your tale, and ask only, if the boat was too trashed before to sail it away after your rogue crew stole the dinghy and abandoned ship, will it be in a condition to sail away now? Should you gain entry to Cuba, what is your plan? Is it close enough to somewhere that if you top up on diesel you can motor there and effect repairs?
I would try getting a seat on one of the humanitarian flights that were mentioned: there's no way that foreign diplomats are being denied access and egress, and your legitimate claim to having personal property in Cuba should be able to secure you the necessary visa. If nothing else, keeping in contact with the authorities there with which you interacted, and who are holding your boat in impound, can't be a bad thing.
Best of luck

This turned out to be one heck of an adventure - overall. Not many men can compete with this true life tale, and I mean no disrespect to anyone involved. I hope you can make it to Cuba.

Re: Desperate to get to Cuba!

You can get to Cuba from any Canadian Airport, Panama, Cancun, Mexico City, etc. no problems there. The Cubans do not care if you have an US license that allows you to enter Cuba. That's just the US restricting it's citizen's movements- though it may be come a problem when you return. Cuba just want to see that you have purchased a "Visa" for about $ 25 (varies by airport). Getting to Cuba should not be a problem at all.
But I seriously doubt that a 29 CAL is worth the money and effort to get it out of Cuban confiscation and return that boat to the USA after it has been out for 7 (?) month. I would estimate that $15,000 are easily spend on fines, fees,a Cuban attorney (a US attorney would not touch your issue without much more of a retainer), taxes and fines in the in USA. I's recommend to give up on that boat, try to donate it to the Cuban government (to avoid additional fees to storing etc.) and just spend the money on a new endeavor. There should not be any values left on board, you most likely took them with you when spending time in Havana.
If you like to clear up the situation in Cuba first: there are plenty of Cuban-American lawyers in Florida that usually deal with immigration and business issues, but they should be fine and competent to give you a clear(er) picture of what to expect when getting to Cuba.

(don't know if already said.) Think Canadian. Any Canadian has been able to go to Cuba. They have races to Cuba.
