Two crew on board, owners no where to be found... Add a daily rum ration and this piratical cruise will be a perfect black flag adventure...

in the olden days delivery prices used to be either $1/nm & all expenses paid or $2/nm all inclusive.
Yeah those prices were exactly right, those were our rate options around SE Asia around year 2000.

And when you're finished with that, you can start working on the boat!

Re: Expenses Paid+ flights & bonuses-Spain to Australia

As a newbie I'm generally surprised at the lack of pay for delivery. A labourer is worthy of his hire and all that. At least free passage plus flights home. And it seems greedy if the skipper is getting paid, but the "deckhands" are expected to do it for "mile building". A fellow sailor said he did a very hairy delivery across Biscay - so hairy one of the crew just stayed in his bunk apparently - and got paid nowt. The other situation that surprises me is a one-way trip where you have to share expenses, but there's no factoring in your expensive flight home. Probably why I'm still a newbie...

Re: Expenses Paid+ flights & bonuses-Spain to Australia

It all depends what you need, what is offered and what you offer. If what is offered is more to my benefit than what I offer, I might be ok to cover the travel myself. If it's just work, then I expect to be paid. If I do it as a favour to a friend, I wouldn't mind doing it for free as long as I have no expenses.

Once I helped on a delivery from the Azores, the owner was really happy I had platinum miles with the airline so I could take a bag of sports equipments with me for free. A big genoa for a 55' yacht still counts as one piece of sports equipment, even if it was a lot heavier then the maximum 32kg weight allowed for any bags. The unloading crew in Ponta Delgada didn't look happy.

Re: Expenses Paid+ flights & bonuses-Spain to Australia

When I need crew I break it down this way.

A. No rush, take your time but an extra hand would be nice for moving the boat. Trip will be more like a holiday than a delivery so stop when everyone is ready for a break. Shore trips to dine or sight see. Nothing expected of the crew other than to stand a watch and help with meals and cleanup. In this case I would pay all expenses including flights, some of the dining out and a bottle of rum and gin on the boat.

B. Move the boat from here to there as expeditiously as weather permits. No stopping, hanging out, side trips. This I would call a delivery and would pay according to the situation.

Re: Expenses Paid+ flights & bonuses-Spain to Australia

In 1985 I delivered a Moody 42 ketch from Puerto Banus, Spain to Halifax, NS via Gib, Vilamoura, Horta. Had 3 onboard, took us about 6 weeks I recall including a few days in Gib fixing issues. Best I can recall I was paid 800 pounds (about $1,000) for myself and my girlfriend, plus travel to the boat and enroute expenses. BTW I saw that exact boat in Shelbourne NS in summer of 2019 while cruising up there, guy bought it from the people we delivered her to.

On to the OP's offer - either an excellent troll, or somebody trying to find the bottom of the market; successful either way, don't you think?

I did nearly that route in 2002/2003 on an Oyster 61:

Lisbon to Canaries - 7
To Antigua - 16
To Cartagena - 5
To Panama - 2
Canal - 1
To Marquesas - 23
To Tuamotus - 4
To Societies - 2
To Russell NZ - 14

So, call it 10.5 weeks of sailing, not counting anything else at all. And Brisbane's a few days further than Russell at least. And I think we might have been a bit faster than a Bavaria 40?

Edit - we spent 13 months making that cruise
