Experienced crew to help me cross to bahamas

I brought the boat (island packet 29) from NC to FL. My crew had to leave so o m solo now. I m in lake worth waiting for a good weather window. But would like to get help in crossing the gulf to bahamas.
We can discuss compensation. But local folks only please.
Thanks

Re: Experienced crew to help me cross to bahamas

I know you have heard a bunch of horror stories about crossing the Gulf Stream but the truth is if the winds are from the south it is a very pleasant sail.
If the wind has any northern component to it DON'T go. If the wind was out of the north and blowing 15 or more yesterday but today is good, DON'T go, it takes a day to settle down.

The bottom line, choose your weather window carefully.

Long as you pick the weather window the crossing is easy. If you check around there in Lake Worth I bet you find other boats you could buddy boat with instead of finding an unknown person to crew.

I have an IP29 also. Please post about your trip. I plan to do a Caribbean trip from Newport in 2025.

Re: Experienced crew to help me cross to bahamas

An Update:
By late November of 2023 I was at Lake worth FL. But didn't see a weather window. Considering being on a slower boat, I decided to go further south in FL till FLL. There I saw a good weather window on December 3rd. I waited in FLL till then and did the crossing.
I left FLL inlet around midnight. I raised the mainsail while waiting on the last bridge. The forecast was about 15 knots from the south. The inlet was a bit choppy but once out the conditions improved. I was able to use my auto pilot (wheel) for almost the entire crossing. The crossing was from FLL to West End. It took about 12 hours to reach West End. My heading was exactly toward West End. Didn't need to do any adjustment to the heading for the entire trip. I had to trim the sails maybe once or twice. The most I saw was 18 knots of end. And I had full main and full jib. My track average speed was 6.4 knots (current was helping). The most speed I saw was 8 (which is in the middle of the gulf stream). Crossing was very nice.
Once in west end, sailing in the banks is very nice and much easier (you get the end but calm water)

So, your heading was not XX miles south of West End to compensate for the northerly flow of the Gulf Stream??
