Land locked sea lover that needs on a boat

First things first. I have no experience in sailing, But being on a boat is the one thing in my life that hasn't changed in 10 years. That means 10 years of yearning to learn. Taking me on would mean getting a hard working and independent worker. I'll do just about anything to get on a boat.
On to the experience that I DO have. I have worked as a Housekeeper for 3 years and can cook with what I'm given. I have worked in Virginia, Montana, California and Colorado in that order and now ill be going to Vermont I work hard to get what I want and what I want is to travel anywhere and everywhere
Let me know if you'd like to speak with me more about this and send me a comment or message.
I know this is a lot of audacity to be even asking this question and I know there will be hard work but i want to learn so badly I'm willing to try practically anything!

Re: Land locked sea lover that needs on a boat

Ahoy:
Since you apparently don't mind moving, why don't you just move somewhere that has a coastline. Then hang around yacht clubs and marinas. There are always lots of yachties that would appreciate a hoard working crew member.

Many websites have "crew wanted / crew available" threads.

PS: Getting the first ride is always the hardest step. Once you're "in the club" opportunities will crop up everywhere. (Says someone who "hitch-hiked" thousands of miles.)

Re: Land locked sea lover that needs on a boat

17 years ago a young lady walked into my sailing club, www.CGSC.org, asking to sail with a member...since then she has sailed in 6 countries on our boats and I am now teaching her daughter to sail.

Most of us appreciate crew who are willing to work on the boat. She became 'prefered crew' when she took a day off work to help me mount a new outboard.

You're in the USA, so whatever I say might not apply.

Coming from a landlocked country myself, there still were sailing clubs around. They usually organsied things like taking part in Regatta-weeks, chartering a boat etc. Also you can easily charter a berth an a coast reasonably close to gather experience.

Re: Land locked sea lover that needs on a boat

Thank you for your response! ive been trying super hard to get on a coastline but the cards that need to be dealt have yet to do so so getting on the coast is nearly impossible for me to do at this point in time, i still look on the regular for jobs and houses somewhere on the coast though.
ill definitely have to check out more websites though so far ive only posted on this one so theres more chances for me to get on one if i put more feelers out there.
ive always thought that would be the case and as i get more into trying to find a place the more i realize it might be better to buy a beginners package sailing school thing then to try and find a job on a boat with no experience
thanks again for your reply!

There is a nice lake on the western boarder of Vt. Will you be anywhere near Lake Champlain, plenty of boats there.

Short notice, but I am planning to leave from Solomons, Maryland to go down the bay and the ICW to Oriental North Carolina. I can delay until Saturday morning but must leave by then.
If you are interested send me an email at svfinlandia at gmail.com.

Could you explain why "it would be good to define" if they were female.

You might try searching for (Regattas in Virginia)
Lots of small stuff comes up in different areas, in my search.
Depends where you are I'm guessing.
You should be able to find some club or situation that's interests you.

If you are still in Virginia, I’m homeported in Hampton and always in need of crew, especially crew that is eager to learn!
