Licensed delivery Captain

We are looking for a licensed Captain to accompany us from Kingston Ontario to the Bahamas aboard our Hunter 50 CC. We were ready to depart when we discovered that the rules for transiting the U.S. have changed. Currently the only way a Canadian vessel to enter the U.S. is with a licensed American Captain aboard. We would like to depart around sept. 15. Travelling via Erie canal and ICW.

Can you provide a source for that information?

I does not seem to match this website:

I spoke with the supervisor at Alexandia bay NY yesterday and was told that we currently must have a licensed american delivery captain on board while in US waters. Things change so quickly, I'm not sure the websites get updated.

November 5, 2020 is NOT pre Covid. Why would CBP maintain a link with incorrect information?

That page is dated September 5, 2018. https://help.cbp.gov/s/article/Artic...language=en_US
Sharon and I routinely do cross border deliveries (both ways) under a Commercial Transaction Number. We talk frequently to CBP Ogdensburg (Regional Head office) and they confirm that they will not issue Cruising Licenses to Canadian Vessels.

Re: Licensed delivery Captain

This is not a cruising permit issue. The border is closed to non-essential travel. Canadians cannot enter the US for recreational purposes.

Re: Licensed delivery Captain

Yes, that is the standard procedure, but these are not standard times and the CBP has not updated the standard page with Covid restrictions. The border is closed to non-essential travel through at least 9/21. The OP (and the one in the other thread) are hoping that by hiring a captain they can become commercial traffic and thus avail themselves of an exemption.

For a later dateline, see this CBP page:

Quote:
April 14, 2021
BOSTON – U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) continued effort to combat the spread of COVID-19 via travel across our borders by reminding travelers that per the “Notification of Temporary Travel Restriction between the United States and Canada,” routine small boat travel for pleasure is deemed non-essential. Additionally, we are assisting Health and Human Services in implementing their authority under Title 42, U. S. Code 265 in accordance with existing Title 8 authority and prohibiting the entry of certain persons into the United States. Therefore, the Boston Field Office reminds the public of the continued temporary closure of small boating locations and reminds travelers that small boating is recreational in nature and not considered essential travel.
