Living in Panama City. Looking to be a volunteer line handler.

Hello,

My name is Zeke and I will be living in Panama City from December 7th 2023 till January 7 2024.

I am looking to be a volunteer line handler for any boat passing thru the Panama canal during that time.

Just looking to have the experience.

Thanks,

-Zeke

Reading a few similar "line handler" posts, and people have been recommending posting something in the Panama Canal facebook group. I don't have Facebook and I'm hoping to use this forum as a means of lining something up.

Re: Living in Panama City. Looking to be a volunteer line handler.

Peak season for small boat transits is roughly March-April.

For southbound transits, cruising boats congregate at Shelter Bay Marina. Post on the board there, walk the docks, chat up cruisers in the bar.

For northbound transits, the traditional hang out was Blalboa Yacht Club resturant, but it closed during COVID. To my knowledge it remains closed. The mooring field there is where most cruisers transiting congregate, but that's not very accessible. Find out if cruisers have found a new hang out nearby (likely a bar).

Also contact some agents. These are individuals that assist small boats with transit logistics. They may refer you to clients who need line handlers.
