True.. He's probably got female CF members queuing round the block for the spot..

The post itself is harmless. There has been a history of these types of requests that go back decades from bullitin board postings, to conga line of similar threads on this and other sites.

There was a thread here a few years ago that went on with countless stories of situations that started this way, and ended with 'handsy' captains once offshore getting frustrated when their hopes and expectations weren't met.

We'd like to think the best of people, but honestly, the news and the 'Me Too' movement simply indicates otherwise.

Unfortunately, a hand-full of %$@#$ have made life a bit more challenging to for the nice guys out there.

I make no judgments as to the morality or intentions of the OP.

I do understand how this could be the case. I doubt there is a way to fix the problem. Which is a shame, it seems a loss for everyone.

So assuming I do not just stumble on to a qualified, interested woman I will just go to Europe single handed. Rather than be a part of the Creepy Guy posting here.

I am outta here.

Re: Looking for female sailing companion..short term, with option to stay

I see nothing creepy in the OP. Quite the contrary, in fact. He is setting up a low stress early interaction with easy bail out options. He is reasonably detailed in what he is seeking and in describing himself. A first meeting on neutral grounds should give any interested woman a chance to check out the vibes, just as in a non-internet originated meeting.

He has set it up with escape hatches to ease the worries of a potential crew. If it develops into something more serious, good for them!

And BTW, IIRC there has been at least one marriage between CF members that met via these hallowed pages.

Confessions of a Horny Guy!

I shoot stars with a silver spoon
I go crazy on a full moon.
But baby, I got no tracks
No monkey on my back
Just You!

Seas are getting Stormy
I'm a getting Horny
but the only tail I need babe, is not from a winch but a wench.

This is sailing my friend,
ain't it the living end.

OP, become bisexual. It will double your chances at having a companion aboard.

That's why we waited until our Great Dane died before moving aboard. I know a few who trained the dog to use a piece of Astroturf, and one boat with Portuguese water dogs that swam themselves ashore, but mostly a cat is much simpler; I taught him to play fetch and tug-of-war, and he even barks (sort of) at strangers who touch our boat.

60 yr old salty female sailor ... had a crew member that was likely a 25 yr old male. ... kid probably got a good taste of what cruising was like and learned a whole lot. And the older Lady got a young kid with all that energy as crew.
Sometimes it really is just sailing.
1. When I've taken someone rather than single-hand, I've had troubles with dudes thinking they should be in charge (although a 70yo friend had a 60yo crew woman try to boss him around ) , or wannabe 'adventurers' who were more trouble than help. I'd prefer female just for that dynamic alone.
2. We'd all love to find healthy youngsters to crew for us, but it's hard to find trained sailors who aren't busy with their own lives and boats -- good luck to him and don't be too quick to judge unless/until someone accuses him.

Re: Looking for female sailing companion..short term, with option to stay

If I was 35yrs younger I'd do this. I have my own boat and would love to make this trip with someone my age and someone that knows more than me about sailing, but everyone wants to go to the islands. I just want a good lobster from Cape Cod.

Also have a hookah rig. Oh, and a underwear metal detector if you want to find treasure...Ive heard its just like picking daisies.

Sounds like a good guy, but you may want to investigate the metal detector.

Yeah ... and the bank account, if there is one. It would be a shame to be spending days ashore each week looking for enough beer-can deposits to grab a cheeseburger. Today, there are many cool websites to check a mountain-man's past history. Court filings, criminal records, and such. It will cost around $9.95. Better safe than sorry.

To the German lass, "PROST!" ... and look in my eyes.

Saw a notice looking for female crew posted on a bulletin board in Suva in which the poster stipulated "must put out", under which someone wrote "the cat".

As in everything, honesty is the best policy.
