Looking for some knowledge.

Looking for someone to possibly show me the ropes around a cruising cat in the 40 ft range. Only limited experience on a monohull. The Idea of a second home Catamaran for occasional cruising is starting to sound like fun. I live in northern suburbs of NYC. If anyone needs a crew member for a day sail to show a noob what its all about, I would appreciate the knowledge. Only interested in 38' and larger sailing Cats. Thanks!

Re: Looking for some knowledge.

That's a sufficiently narrow goal that you may be best off simply going where the boats are. 38'+ sailing cats make up a small percentage of the boats out there, but you may be able to find them in DIY yards where you can trade your work for experience, or at marinas where you could introduce yourself to owners. It's not too likely that someone on the forum can direct you to a specific opportunity.

Welcome, and good luck with it.

Re: Looking for some knowledge.

Agreed. Larger sailing cats seem to all be far far away from me. Just figured I’d throw it out and see what may arise. BTw. What and where would one find a DIY yard? Thanks for the responses.

Re: Looking for some knowledge.

There are plenty of larger catamarans in Annapolis and sailing schools that teach ASA114, the Cruising Catamaran Course. Dream Yacht Charters has an Annapolis base with catamarans that may be chartered by the day or week. I am sure there would be the option of a captain. Also, cross-post this on the multihull forum. Good luck...totally different sailing experience.
