Re: looking for three flat earth theory followers

Proof that the earth is flat is easy: even with satellite positioning there’s only longitude and latitude, 2 dimensional, while sailing around an orb would mean you move in three dimensions, duh!

Crikey, you mean you get to enjoy sailing on flat seas 24/7

It's similar to flocks of birds that you see swirling in patterns.. They've replicated these patterns in computer simulations by applying a simple set of rules to the objects.

In the case of a "fishball", it's pretty much one survival instinct (rule) that they all try to obey - if you find yourself near the edge of the school, swim towards the middle where you are less likely to be taken by a predator, without bumping into other fish.

Not to get all serious here, but this is a good example of the kind of "predictable irrationality", to borrow a phrase from behavioural psychologist Dr. Dan Ariely, that is inherent in our species. We're master pattern-seekers, and can leap to causal conclusions, even when none exist.

Our brains have evolved to take scant information and find the underlying cause or pattern. It's been a hugely successful evolutionary trait, but it also results in a lot of false-positive conclusions. This is how we arrive at gods, goblins and ghosts as explanations for patterns we can't immediately understand.

Not to get all serious here, but this is a good example of psycho-babble. Gods, goblines and ghosts are a long stretch from widely studied "flocking behaviour".

They actually funded an idiot who built a rocket and launched it (didnt go well and he was Absolutely scamming them)

I meant the part about we know what gravity is and how it works

Everything related to gravity is a theory but none are proven

This phenomenon is better understood than gravity

Well enough that quadracopters can be programmed to replicate the phenomenon

"didn't go well" has to be the understatement of the thread

Another one who doesn't understand the concept of "scientific theory" and who falsely thinks that there is such a thing as "scientific proof"?

I thought it took proofs to make a theory? Anyway that's just my hypothesis.

That would be "a theorem"
Don't confuse mathematics, logic and science.

You can have "mathematical proofs" and "logical proofs" of theorems, but not "scientific proofs" of a theory.

I know what a scientific theory is and isn’t, don’t be silly

Einsteins theory of relativity explains many things but leaves much unresolved

If it didn’t then we wouldn’t have string theory trying to fill in gaps or trying to explain how gravity works, amongst other things
