Crew Wanted: open cpn on tablet won't read charts

I downloaded opencpn version 5 on my samsung tab A, and put all my charts on a micro sd card. I cannot get open cpn to find the charts. When I click on tools and go to charts none of the charts show in the directory. I drag down the top of my screen and am able to open a window showing the sd card with a prompt to tap to transfer media files, and do that and it opens a window showing all the files, but nothing happens when i tap on them.
I am pretty new to this and wonder if anyone has any ideas.
