relocating a sailboat from ca to nc

We wanted some info on possibility of moving a sailboat from ca to nc. We had questions about time and costs associated. We dont actually own the boat yet. Its part of feasibility and cost analysis that will help us plan.

Dave,

My advice is to buy a boat on the east coast as that will save you many thousands of dollars and lots of time and maintenance.

Re: relocating a sailboat from ca to nc

Dave,

The size of the boat is sort of critical. Is it a 30' or 60' vessel?

Candidly, unless it is a real unicorn- buy one on the East Coast, or Gulf. Heck, it may be cheaper to buy a boat in Spain than CA....

As mentioned, the transport companies will answer the question you're asking.

Use https://sailboatdata.com/ to find an answer to size/weight questions.

Also, factor in lift fees and mast removal/installation, and anything else that needs to be done to get the boat off the water or hard to the truck, and from the truck to the desired location

Don't forget to ad in the Panama Canal costs, that is the offical AND unofficial costs which range on the order of whatever they think they can extort.

I'll volunteer, but I'm old and don't have experience on a large boat.

We went from Deltaville Va to Oxnard Ca with our Taswell 49 using-

https://jouleyacht.com/

Two key areas were total vertical height from bottom of keel to top of remaining pulpits/ winches and beam (has to be <=15 feet). Actual transit took 6 days (including time restrictions) in late 2020.
