Spring can be a wonderful sailing season on the Columbia, especially those 2 summer-like weeks in February, but beware the very stiff current when the river is high. My advice is practice deploying your anchor, because if your engine conks out you may not be able to sail upstream without losing ground.

PS, One easy way to leave a personal msg on the forum is to thank someone for their post to initiate a conversation. From that point on it's just clicking the private messages link under your name in the upper right hand corner of the forum screen.
Thanks for the feedback, I'll try it. I narrowed it down to one person I'm having problems sending to so their service may be down or something.

Yes I was astounded by the force of the tide even when the river appeared glass like like it was on Tuesday pm when we moved the boat. I'm not attempting anything heroic till I'm good and confident

As I keep my boat in Olympia, I'm always looking for an evening sail.
Weekends are for South sound.
If you need crew or help drop PM me.

Yep, I live and teach high school in Portland. Keep my Cascade 42 in Olympia.

Cool, I'll probably take you up on that offer. First I gotta figure out what needs to be done to get her in sailing condition. I don't have any idea what shape the sails are in. I know that not all running lights are working and I'm pretty sure there are lines missing, I just don't know enough at this point to tell exactly what it is that I need. There's a bit of tweaking still to be done on the motor, I had some problems when I moved her, nothing major though, with the motor at least, that part I have someone working on. I haven't been able to get down there to even check her out because of the weather. Last I was there was on Thurs and it was hailing with gusting wind.
