Thumbs up Volunteer Crew Wanted for 41’ Catamaran Departing Panama for La Paz Mexico Jan 7

Volunteer Crew Wanted for 41’ Catamaran Departing Panama for La Paz Mexico Jan 7 2022.

(The Passage) This delivery will begin in Vista Mar Marina, Panama, about an hour drive from Panama. This boat has already transited the Panama Canal and is currently on the Pacific side. This passage is approximately 2,300 nautical miles of most likely coastal motor-sailing. I always hope to sail as much as possible however this is a delivery and realistically we will be using the motors substantially to expedite the passage. Normally this trip takes about 3 weeks and we stop in 2 or 3 Mexican ports for a few days but it can take up to a month. We stop as needed for fuel or to avoid any inclement weather when possible. Bring your favorite lures as the fishing and whale watching should be excellent.

(The Boat) Is a 2005 Lagoon 410 with four cabins and heads (not actual photo). New rigging and life raft were installed in 2017, just prior to its Atlantic crossing. She is equipped with twin Yanmars, solar, new batteries, a water maker, offshore satellite tracking, email, weather, plus much more.

(The Captain) Is a USCG Licensed 100 Ton Master that has completed a solo circumnavigation on a 30ft sloop and has since completed over 50,000 nm of offshore deliveries and sailing instruction. I also expect my partner, an experienced sailor and circumnavigator with over 50,000 nm of offshore experience herself will likely be onboard. We have done this route many times and are in fact currently completing another Panama – Mexico sailboat delivery as I write this. We should have room for two additional crew members with private cabins and heads making a total of four people on board. My sailing resume and contact info is available on my CF profile.

(The Arrangement) This is a delivery and I am seeking volunteer crew. On-board food/provisioning and passage-related expenses, fuel, marina fees, etc, will be provided by the owner and reasonable travel expenses are available for those with a substantial amount of sailing experience. Going out to eat, food and drinks at the marina restaurant, or any entertainment is on you. This is not a paid position nor would you have to pay us anything. Flights would be in to Panama City, Panama (PTY) and then later out of La Paz or possibly Los Cabos or Cabo San Lucas. All crew are expected to help with all aspects of the passage including pre-passage preparation and post passage clean up. We are alcohol free underway and you should expect to help keep an active watch as required , usually on a rotational basis both day and night, helping with navigating, collision avoidance, weather analyses, sail-handling, cooking, cleaning, repairs etc. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who wants to gain sea-miles and especially for individuals looking to gain offshore experience, confidence, and mile-building with the supervision and instruction of qualified captain underway. What you don’t know you will be taught.

(Requirements for the crew) Please send me a private message or email including your phone number, location, nationality, age, and any other contact info. Let me know why you would like to take this trip and if you have you been fully vaccinated. Let me know up front if you require expenses. Tell me about your sailing experience or attach a CV. Please mention any other experience or skills that you might possess that could be useful at sea (engineers, medical professionals, mechanics, cooks etc,). I tend to give preference to fully vaccinated people with at least some offshore experience who know they do not get seasick. You should be available to arrive in Panama by Jan 7th and have an open schedule for at least 3 to 4 weeks.

We are currently completing a delivery in Mexico and it could be several days before we can check e-mail, so please be patient.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon!

Thank you to everyone who responded with a private message, we still have a position open and will start responding to the qualified applicants shortly. Our last trip up the coast of Mexico finished a few days ago and was quite the success with even favorable winds for sailing several days! Looking forward to doing it again in a few weeks!
