1980 Glastron Spirit 28--good boat???

I'm finally going to buy a boat! I'm looking serriously at a Glastron 28 and am wondering if you have any advice or warnings? Under 300 hours on the Yanmar diesel. The boat seems to be well cared for. I haven't had a surveyors check it yet. Thanks for any help! IrishJim

What do you expect to do with it?

Early 80's boats under $20K are not all that uncommon. Finding one that was pretty clean with good working gear might be nice depending on what you expect to do with it.

I saw one of these for sale here locally for $1500... Be very, very careful with this boat. Glastron was NOT one of the better boat builders from the 70s & 80s.

Lake cruising

I'll be sailing on Lake Texoma, the largest lake in Texas. Good sailing lake. I can see myself moving up to a newer or bigger boat in a few years, but first I want to be sure I'll use a boat as often as I think I will. I'd rather make a $15000 mistake than a $40,000 mistake. Of all the '75-'85 boats I've seen in the +/- $15,000 range, this is one of the 2-3 best I've seen. Since I'm not familiar with Glastron, I've been doing my homework, but also am looking for any info I can get from other sailors. Thanks. !
