1980's hulls

sorry to ask this question I am sure it is been done to death. I am looking for serious information on 80's construction. I grew up sailing a 70's Irwin 30' owned a small 21' and am now looking at buying a 1984 hunter 34. it has always been preached to me to stay away from 80's boats because of the fiberglass and/or construction is shoddy. I don't really know what to believe. boat will be on Erie and sail the lakes, to Nova Scotia if I'm lucky. any serious input would be greatly appreciated.
