Re: 1984 Wauquiez Pretorien

I own a Pretorien 35 and love it. They are well-built and great sailing boats. I am familiar with the one you are looking at and it will need a lot of work. $20k + $20k is probably right.

Re: 1984 Wauquiez Pretorien

Greetings.

We have owned our Pretorien 35 since 2010, sailing in the Great Lakes. Things to consider / common problem areas:

Important to make sure the mast step is in good shape. Some have deteriorated due to water intrusion

Keel / hull joint. Rebedding after 30+ years is costly, but has been performed by several P35 owners

Backing plate for the headstay - simple DIY.

Original engine may be approaching time for a replacement $$$$

Upgrades we completed: all DIY
1. Non skid deck re-paint
2. DC electrical (panel and wiring)
3. Added secondary self tailing winches
4. New teak in cockpit
5. Switched to tiller steering (very well balanced boat)
6. Replaced all thru-hulls, hoses, etc...
7. New mast step (outsourced to the pros)
8. Refaired keel / hull joint (outsourced to the pros)
9. Interprotect 2000 - Blister protection
10. Removed ablative paint and applied VC17 antifoul

We have been happy with the boat...original engine was replaced by PO, only 750 current hours. Nice.

We recently purchase another project boat, Contessa 35 and have jumped in upgrading in a similar way.

Might be interested in going back to one sailboat, pretty hard to sail both.

The boat the OP listed currently has a sale pending.

Is it the OP?

Chili Palmer,
No. I (and the boat) am located in Cleveland. Not sure where the OP's targeted boat is located.

I'm looking at a Pretorien right now to purchase. I like how you've upgraded yours. How much do you est all that cost? How much would you sell it for now?
