35 Cal Cruiser 1973, Perkins Engine no mast

I have searched the archives and could not find anything on this subject. I just got a demasted Cal Cruiser. It has some good qualities, but not having a mast is a ream bummer. There is about a 5 ft. section left of the mast and it is mounted on the deck. I can find no evidence that the mast extended down to the keel. I have searched online and cannot find any information on what mast would replace the piece of mast that now is decorated as a totem pole.

THanks, Kathy

PS The bonus question is replacing the raritan toilet or just trying to replace the electrical unit. It is also demasted or dethroned. I am tired of the compost toilet.

Re: 35 Cal Cruiser 1973, Perkins Engine no mast

In situations like yours, Rigrite is often suggested as a good source. Talking with a rigger near you might also provide some ideas or leads for a new spar. This https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/cal-35-cruise seems to show that the mast should be keel stepped. If you have a totem pole there now, who knows what else a previous owner may have done? Does the deck show evidence of any "repairs" where the mast is now? Is there a solid compression post under your "totem pole"? Is there no mast step hidden under the cabin sole by the head? Are there sails? Their dimensions would provide useful clues to the spars. Good luck.
