Re: 45-50 ft. Bluewater with a bright interior?

NZ Bruce Farr yachts have white interiors.

Lots of Jeanneau's sailed from Mexico & Panama and are now here in Polynesia. 490 would be great.(Don't paint wood white)

Your bracketed ending is so true !
Wimmin luv painting timber white.
The 490 interior has come a long way from the coal box in the stern.
Her layout is well thought through.

Yes, I am excited to see the 490 in person and I hope it will work great, but I just have reservations about how blue water capable it would be in rough seas. I am always a bit suspicious when the STIX and AVS are not listed, although they do say its a class A. As one review said, its not exactly the same as a Hallberg-Rassy (which I was amazed with their STIX of 47), but then again, the price isn't that of a Hallberg-Rassy either.

I took a moment to see your video, WOW. I'm no expert, but I've done four months of offshore passages in as many years on over half a dozen (mostly) very nice boats, and visited on several dozen even nicer "neighbor's" vessels at various ports, but let me say again, wow, your Mucho Gusto is stunning, I don't know how you can bear to sell her.

Not that I'd have the $, but it is absolutely a dream boat, by my reckoning. (I'll call you if I win the lottery next week. ) I guess you're saying you don't feel the Mucho Gusto can handle the rigors of the really deep blue(?).

All that said, your and OP's points are well taken, it is so nice to have bright and airy, houses as well as S/V's.

Final compliment, fabulous video. I appreciate high end warrants a high end presentation, but that one is great. I'm assuming was a professional video company (?), if I may ask who that was, or perhaps it was you who are that skilled - kudos either way.

Cheers

Re: 45-50 ft. Bluewater with a bright interior?

Well, I followed a new Moody on it's way to a boat show for a couple miles once just to get a closer look at it,
https://www.yachts.group/moody/gb/boats/moody-ds45.html
But my wife would like to sell everything and get one of these

But then I see nothing wrong with the Jeaneau you started with either.

Beautiful Boat. About as close to a Cat type living space as I've seen on a Monohull.

The designs are a moving feast. Love the voluminous interiors.
Deep hull sides give so much agreeable down below space.

Re: 45-50 ft. Bluewater with a bright interior?

I would buy an Island Packet 485 - well I would say so.

However having been through the same process these are the conclusions I reached;

For liveaboard you cant do with too much space especially with kids so huge volume, loads of storage and a stand in rear lazarette that consumes all the toys;

It may be a knot slower up wind but will fly downwind, incredibly safe (no keel to fall off), incredibly sea kindly, robust and will sail itself.

Rig very easy to manage with enough power winches but systems that are well proven and little to go wrong.

Light and airy.

Safety of a centre cockpit.

I think it is a superb family blue water cruiser if you wish to sail in comfort and feel you can take whatever you might need / like with you.

I concur, although shelter from the elements, if in the cockpit is welcome.
Hard shelter means coffee without ocean in it.
Think Roaring 40's.

Re: 45-50 ft. Bluewater with a bright interior?

Love of boats moves us all to compare them and learn about different ones; but before spending too much time considering how bright their interiors are, and the vessel that you'll ultimately buy, perhaps you and your family should plan a few long charters to see if onboard living is for you and them? I would address that human factor first, just MHO.

The trend is actually going in the opposite direction to more open space. Most of the Discovery boats, although very nice and well-built, have no open space and are more like a series of hallways and worm holes leading to bathrooms and small living quarters.

Wow, this does look like a fantastic fit! Huge boat, reasonably priced used, a true blue water cruiser with along keel and protected rudder. 300 Gallons of water. I don't have the exact STIX number for that model (as its no longer made), but the ones I do have number for are around 50 which is fantastic. I am also surprised how bright their interior is all the way back to the original designs in the early 2000's. Found this one which would work great and is in our price range: https://www.yachtworld.com/boats/200...g#.WzD-rC2ZNN0

Thanks for pointing this out!

Caliber 47? might still be a bit on the dark side depending on your opinion.

Tartan 4400 might be worth a look as well. Really nice light but most I have been on were finished with dark wood inside.
