You want wax? How about that waxy shiny stuff that they used to hand out in schools in the UK 50 odd years ago.

That was real John Wayne paper.

I'm totally with you, Jim. While I respect the choice of those who bag, that is not a choice I would ever consider. And I would never go on a long cruise on any boat practicing that. I'm sorry, but the idea of being on a boat where the fecal matter of several persons had been bagged and held for two or three weeks is just not something I could deal with. We all have our tolerances.

What a silly comment about fetal matter kept 3 weeks. Bag it and take it to the garbage or if on a passage simply over the side with other non plastic garbage.

Also don't go for holidays in most places in the Med because all the hotels/homes/rooms are bag it only policy as their pipes are not designed to take toilet paper although they also have bidets if you like a cold shower on your crotch first thing in the morning.

LOL…I remember seeing that stuff…
As a student I’ll never forget my first tour of a Scottish Castle museum….
Went to the toilet and found that same horrible thin wax paper with a proud stamp on each section.
“Property of Her Majesty’s Government”

Didn’t know if this was a humorous comment on the separation politics of Scottish nationalism.... or just their thrifty nature?

I agree. In my experience all the common marine toilets are rated by the manufacturer for toilet paper. We use single/double ply cheap light paper over the modem multi-ply stuff. No blockages

No absorbent content at all in those wax sheets. They just moved it around. If you wiped long enough you ended up with a dingleberry on the top of your head.

Coops.

Re: A Dirty Topic.... Toilet Paper! What to do with it?

Ahhh, I remember French TP back around 1960: Somewhat waxy in nature, but with a roughing surface (about 80 grit) on one side, and a finish cut (about 400 grit) on the other. Absorbency similar to teflon, flexibility similar to a shirt cardboard.

Wonderful stuff (?). But I don't know if it would be marine qualified...

See, all you naysayers: there has been societal progress in the last half century!

Wifey B: Ewwwwwwwwwww. Glad you guys fixed that stuff before I was born.

Hubby B: Don't squeeze the Charmin'. That single phrase with Mr. Whipple changed the entire toilet paper scene. Charmin had actually been around since 1928. But Proctor and Gamble had acquired the company and ran over 500 commercials with Mr. Whipple starting in the mid 60's. Also before my birth, but I remember it only because we studied it in an advertising course in college. Suddenly the drive toward softer, plusher toilet paper was launched.

Oh and we don't and never have used Charmin' which is on Greenpeace's black list.

Re: A Dirty Topic.... Toilet Paper! What to do with it?

I spent some great summers during my college years from '65 to '69 touring about Europe. We enjoyed the backpacking, youth hostels, EurailPass, all the beautiful places and the culture that most Americans consider to be our heritage. We usually bought the Icelandic Airlines turboprop passage roundtrip from NYC to Luxembourg for less than $400. Europe on $5/day was easy, but after the first summer we would stuff toilet paper from home in all our extra luggage space. This left the perfect space for the things we bought in Europe. Maybe not the best international trade practice, but we knew value!

We have one friend who always has at least a partial roll of toilet paper in her purse.

Carmen learned it from her mother who is from Spain. She grew up in NYC but they traveled to Europe regularly.
