Abandoned boat in Cuba (Marina Hemingway)

I got a chance to sail to Cuba this summer. Today while looking at pics I came across a couple photos I snapped of an abandoned boat in the harbor.

Anyone knows her story? It had words abandoned and a date scribbled somewhere on its side.

Honestly, it didn't feel that bad of shape once you counted the years it has been sitting there. Couldn't help but to think what was the deal.

Pics are attached.

Yeah, imaging the likely paperwork snarl to get her outta Cuba though.

There are a few seized aircraft at the CBP station in Key West too.
Feel sure they came out of Cuba, perhaps this Boat went the other way?

That would be a first! Fleeing from the US INTO Cuba?

Not likely

Country of registry?

That looks like a little Panamanian flag on the port bow ahead of the numbers.

Well, I know of a few times that small aircraft have been flown into Cuba to pick up people, why not a Boat?

Panama it is. Wonder if there is online access to Panamanian registry?

Re: Abandoned boat in Cuba (Marina Hemingway)

How do you know it's abandoned? We were there this February and there were several boats there which looked even more abandoned than this one. We figured US based budget constrained owners just use this marina as cheap on the water storage location compared to what they would pay in So. Florida. What they were saving each month would be more than enough for a periodic r/t ticket.

I would assume he is saying its abandoned due to it being scribbled on the sides of the vessel with a date as well. ( at least he stated that in the original post.)

That is correct, sir - "Abandoned" and a "month, year" date was painted in semi-large letters on the side. I should of taken a picture.

I don't recall the exact date stated - but it was there for a few years. Maybe 5 or 10? I was thinking to myself, how did this boat manage to not sink for so many tears: tied against a concrete pier without bumpers, no bilge pump, busted out windows... still there, afloat and honestly not looking all that bad. All things considered.
