Re: Ahoy Carbineer 46 Owners

I finally bought Durendal 46 Carbineer !
Now it's time to work .
I'm trying to use the autopilot Pinta motor drive using it with a Raymarine EVo, but i have no idea how to connect the motor o the course computer.
The motor has 6 "big" wires (2 red, 2 black, 2 grey) and other 4 "thin" (giving them 24v the clutch works).
The motor works, I connect red together, 1 black and 1 grey together (BG) and giving BG and the lonely Black the motor starts to turn but only in one direction, if i invert + and - the motor still turn in the same direction.

Any suggestion is very welcome!

Re: Ahoy Carbineer 46 Owners

Carbineers are individually built To owners specs so they are all different not like a Toyota Corolla plus they have been upgraded over the years. Without knowing what type of course computer & auto pilot yo have fitted its impossible to help you out.
My Raymarine course computer only has 2 wires going to the drive motor we only have 12 volt system. With so many variables I suggest you use a professional to fix your problem . If i was there looking at it that would be a different matter .

Thank You Mike, the raymarine is a evo400 a 12/24 two wires drive motor control.
The motor has no plate but the old connection is 24V.
In this period technicians are not available for puzzles I hope someone can show me how to use these 6 wires . I don't know which kind of motor is

I'm in Rome and the boat too.
Th old autopilot is a PINTA, the new one is a S3 raymarine but i will have an ACU400.

I made some ohom measurement and shortcut test between wires.
shortcut results:
RED & RED, BLACK and BLACK, GREY AND GREY
Ohm measurement:
only between RED and RED 30 ohm

Re: Ahoy Carbineer 46 Owners

continuing experiment.. i found this wiring configuration
RED1 RED2 shortcutted
BLACK1 24 volts negative
BLACK2 and GREY1 shortcutted
GREY2 24 volts positive
Result : motor runs anticlockwise

RED1 RED2 shortcutted
BLACK1 24 volts negative
BLACK2 and GREY2 shortcutted
GREY1 24 volts positive
Result : motor runs clockwise

This is good but not enough, i have to control the motor with polarity inversion because the raymarine ACU400 has only two wires to control the drive..
any idea ?

Re: Ahoy Carbineer 46 Owners

I'm not on my boat at the moment but I found a pic of my drive motor which only has 2 wires my Raymarine spx 30 course computer must switch polarity . You should be able to set up a system of relays to get yours to work or get a new drive motor. My system is different to yours & unfortunately I don't have any pics on my phone.

Re: Ahoy Carbineer 46 Owners

Hello all I have started a Facebook page called “Carberneer 46 appreciation page”. Hopefully we can track down all of the Australian built Carberneers.

Re: Ahoy Carbineer 46 Owners

Dear Carbineer-ers,
I have leaks from some of the bolts which fix the genoa track down through the teak toe-rail on my Carbineer. I am getting them out, which is a mission in itself.
My question for the forum is how best to replace these bolts.
My current idea is to drill down through each hole to make sure each is straight (using a bit just a bit bigger than the bolts being replaced), then to block the bottom of each hole and fill with epoxy; then to re-drill for a close fit for new bolts. I will have new bolts made, with Allen-key heads, with the thread cut for all or part of the length according to the answers to the following:
Question 1: should I tap a thread into the epoxy and have the bolts threaded for their full length - or should the un-threaded shanks extend right down almost to the point where the bolts protrude through the underside of the toe rail?
OR
Question 2: Has anyone experience of the Gudgeon Brothers / West System approach and/or got a view on whether it might work well, long-term, to drill down the epoxy re-fill to maybe about half-inch / 12mm from the end and then fit bolts slightly shorter than the tapped depth?
In all cases, I will use insulating washers and a good sealant.
Welcome all suggestions!
Keith

Re: Ahoy Carbineer 46 Owners

Hi Kieth
Hold back a bit on those track bolts cobber all I did was take them out one at a time clean them & replace with a bit of Sica that solved the leak problem. If you epoxy it's not flexible & will crack & leak again . No need to drill out or anything. Access is relatively easy from behind the seats in the saloon .
In fact i'm going to remove them all along with my staunching mounts at next refit coming up soon . I'm in Sydney building a 37 story high rise topping up my retirement & cruising fund.

Re: Ahoy Carbineer 46 Owners

Does anyone have screen wipers? I have two Wynn's Type 48 and am refurbishing them, but have found the belts, which were fitted whenever it was serviced some time ago, are wrong. I have found where I can get 7M1450 vee belts, which look like being OK. Anyone any experience of these?
I have been in contacted with the original suppliers, but they have no parts available for my old kit.
