AMF Paceship 26 - Opinions?

There are a couple in my area and I have to say that I am impressed with this sturdy, fast and roomy little 26 footer.
The 8hp diesel yanmar is said to be underpowered and it probably is.
Uncluttered comfortable cockpit and keel stepped mast.
Great headroom throughout and lenghly berths.
I was a bit predjudice about these boats when I first heard of them as I was concerned about AMF's competence at designing a hull but recently found out that they acquired the Paceship company out of Nova Scotia and continuing manufacturing the same boat in Connecticut.
Can anyone confirm my statement as accurate?

Any other positive or negative opinions?

I grew up sailing on a Nova Scotia-built PY23. My family had a lot of great adventures on that boat. My recollection is that the consensus was that the AMF built boats were not quite as good as the Mahone Bay boats, but were still much better than O'Days and other competitors.

AMF took over 75-76, in 81 Tanzer got the molds and called it Tanzer 27. They made a shoal draft also. Paceship were 6000disp. and 2000 ballast.A keeper probably.

This is from a 1980 AMF model spec sheet.

6400 displacement
2250 ballast
336.9 square ft sail area

The owner of this particular boat said she sucks downwind but sails like a dream upwind. That was her personal opinion, I'm not sure if other owners would agree with that. But I have read others saying the jib isn't worth much on this boat and the 150 Genoa is a must. Also she doesn't do much in light winds but when they do kick up the boat blasts past other boats in it's class.
