an email from Bob Perry!

Thanks you so much for the suggestion to e mail Robert Perry about the Young Sun. What a thrill for a newbe- wannabe sailing gal. Below is his reply.
And, there is a web site
http://www.geocities.com/bill_dietri...els.html#Union
that says Perry tried to seperate himself from the Union, obviously not true.
This is a great web site, we are going to get a boat again soon and I am so glad to be a part of the sailing community!

Dear Stephen:
I'm not sure why you are by passing the Unions. They are Hans Christian 36's by another name, same yard, same design.

I have no idea where the Young Sun came from. It is not my design as far as I can tell but forever my name is attatched to it anyway. It's not a boat I would recommend as I don't know it that well.

It's not my habit to give free advice. I prefer to keepthing on a professional basis and to that end I offer consultation for $500 for a lifetime's supply. This way I can afford to spend the time with you that it will require to make sure your next move is the right move. I get a lot of emails asking for advice and with the ongoing press of new design work I cannot afford to give my time away. I hope you can understand this position.

an e-mail from Bob Perry

wannasail

I have a 1980 Young Sun 35 . I e-mailed Bob Perry with some questions and he told me the very same thing. Since then I have heard the YS 43 was designed by Robert May so maybe the 35 was too. But if I ever sell the boat it will be a Robert Perry design. She is not fop sale but she can be bought. I was asked that question a few days ago. If you have any questions I will be happy to try and answer them.

Bob is a very nice guy. I found his consulting fee a pretty interesting offer. He used to often post on the Cruising World bulletin board when it was in full swing and he and I have exchanged email on occasion, not so much asking for advice, but kicking around ideas on some topic or other.

Regards,
Jeff
