Anchor light wiring

Rigger says we need to re-wire the anchor light on my '86 Hunter 31. She's in a slip and rigged. Anybody have experience doing this? Running and steaming lights are working. Any and all info, suggestions, drum beats and prayers appreciated!

Re: Anchor light wiring

Send the rigger up to fix it, or you can hoist one of these when you need to:

Re: Anchor light wiring

I thought the riggers did the wires on the outside of the mast...
Sure it's not a bad connection, fuse, or a burnt out bulb?
Is is possible to snake a new wire, bottom to top or top to bottom?

Re: Anchor light wiring

It could happen but the likelihood of a wire failing vs connections or fittings on the ends is miniscule.

I would check the light fitting, the connections, switches, etc before running a new wire.

Not sure about Hunter but most boats wrap all the in mast wiring together so if you pull one you have to pull them all. Found that out when I ran a new VHF antenna cable in my mast. Had to pull everything to get the antenna cable out.

Re: Anchor light wiring

I confess to REALLY liking the kerosene anchor light, PSK125! If I only had an old wooden schooner to go with it....😏 Thank you all for your responses. The top of the copper wire is corroded, there is no slack to pull it up, and we can't tell how far down the corrosion goes. I'm leaning toward simply abandoning the existing wire and running new. The objective is to install a new LED anchor light. I have great respect for our local rigger who has always come through for me. If it doesn't happen, well, there's always the kerosene lamp option!

Re: Anchor light wiring

The hanging anchor light is actually preferable to me because often in an anchorage the anchor lights are up too high really help mark the boat, and if there are other lights on shore, the mast head light can be lost in those. I have an electric and a kerosene one too. I hang the electric up between the mast and headstay. You could wait until you have to pull the mast for something else to re-do it all.
