Re: Anchors

I’ve used a box anchor, with success, to fill a recycling bin

Re: Anchors

Both my Spade and Fortress came in boxes, and they work great!

Re: Anchors

I've seen boxes filled with cement and rebar and thrown to the bottom of the sea and then tied to a boat. Works well for moorings

Re: Anchors

I have never seen a box anchor, but I am not impressed with the marketing claims. Specifically that a 40lb anchor is fine for a 70 foot boat at 2:1.

The only formal independent anchor test that has included the box anchor (that I am aware of) was Practical Sailor in 1999. The result was not very promising:

“Repeatedly tripped forward releasing its back “teeth” when any more than a scope of about 3:1 was used and a force of about 100lb was applied”

There are much better, well proven alternatives, in my view.

For those not familiar with the box anchor, below is a photo:

Re: Anchors

I purchased one last year for use in the San Juan Islands. I found it would not hold at all. I purchased one size larger than recommended but I could never get it to hold. Thankfully I brought a backup.
