Looking at

1982 C&C 38 Landfall- exceptionally clean with excellent canvas etc etc, I can't imagine there is a better example out there.

1993 Ericson 38- also very clean but also 11 years newer.

The Ericson is about 1/3 more expensive. 63k and 99k I believe. But I'd like to keep cost out of the decision making, either is in my range.

Keep it simple, which would you choose?

I crewed on a C&C 25, and captained an Ericson 32.

The C&C always beat me in races, but it was probably the captain

We have friends who had a newer Ericson 38, and another who still has his older one. They're nice, comfy boats. And slow. The PHRF rating for them is around 111 in your neck of the woods. The C&C 38 is even slower: PHRF 126 in the Northwest. With any two boats, there are going to be differences in maintenance that will have a bearing on which is in the better shape. Both are worthy of consideration. You need to determine which fulfills your needs best.
