A light boat tends to have a more jerky motion but is a drier faster ride... sometimes. A heavy boat may wallow and "death roll"... which is not comfortable either. My most comfortable boat was a catamaran... even though it was a jerky motion... no brusied hips from trying to stay vertical!

seems like u r 2 green for any blue water trips. my advice-get a 30-35' boat and learn something for a year or two. u may have the price for more but doubt if u have the know how.
