Re: Any Thoughts on the Cooper 416 ?

That one's been for sale for quite some time. The price is certainly good. A very different layout then mine and a different engine.

I don't have a working knotmeter, just the GPS which I don't find terribly reliable for speed. She points well and is as fast as most boats her size. I usually have a 150 genoa up since she is heavy and likes the wind. She sails better in 15 then in 10 but as long her bottom cleans she still sails in 4 or 5 knots.

Do you have any comments/observations about this particular boat (other than it has no inside steering station). What speed can you maintain on a close haul in 10 knots of wind? 15 knots of wind? Thanks!

On days when it's been 12-15 knots of wind all day I've probably averaging 5 knots. Maybe 4 in 10. I've had her moving over 8 knots in strong winds.

Cooper has a very good reputation up here where they were built. They were well made and well fit.

Re: Any Thoughts on the Cooper 416 ?

Thank you for the heads up. Are you referring to the raised dinette in place of the inside steering station? Or something else? I personally like the raised dinette and I am willing to trade the inside steering station to get it (I believe that I will be able to steer with a remote auto pilot). I am very much looking forward to your input here. Thanks.

I actually don't think the boat you're looking at was built by Cooper. I suspect it's a US Yachts 42 given the year. Same mold but different company using it. I understand that Cooper didn't build any after 82 but I can't say that I know this to be fact.

Hummingway is right Mackster. I don't know what kind of glutton for punishment your are.But that is not a Cooper. And most definately not a Mapleleaf. The engine in it isn't a Lehman either. But being kind it will make a nice dockside liveaboard.
