Anyone sailing to the Caribbean and want to sell their boat?

Greetings!

We are a couple living in the Cayman Islands and looking at purchasing a cruising sailboat for local sailing. Sadly, being a small island there is only one boat for sale here and its not in good enough condition for us to consider the asking price.

suffice it to say that finding a boat is fairly tricky for us with the option of purchasing in in Florida and having it captained here. We're not made of money and paying 5000-7000 to bring it here is a nice chunk of our budget.

Someone on reddit suggested that perhaps we might be lucky enough to find someone who is looking to sail the Caribbean and sell their boat here. They suggested we look at some of the rallies that end in the Caribbean as that might be frequently done?

We realize its covid, and coming on hurricane season so we're in no rush time-wise

We're looking for :
33-38' monohull, with draft 5' or below preferably.

Would anyone have an idea where we can post to reach sailors looking to sell in the Caribbean?

Aside from C19, power Boat and Peak in Trinidad broker boats for owners who have given up. Try their brokerage sites also, try YachtWorld for boats in the Caribbean

Once borders reopen take a look at boats in Rio Dulce, Guatemala. It would be pretty easy to sail to the Caymans. Look at Seakist yacht brokerage on yachtworld.

You also might see a few boats for sale in Belize and Isla Mujeres. check the cruising Facebook groups.

Is that going to happen David? The way it's going I doubt it will happen this year.

Given that time is not your issue, I'd wait and check out the Rio Dulce and Grenada for used monohulls. Waiting for a seller to come to you with the perfect boat could prove fruitless. Grenada has the best marine service infrastructure but you can also find cheap qualified labor in the Rio Dulce but few parts are available. Both are hurricane holes so you wouldn't be forced to move anytime soon.

Good day.

Our beloved boat is currently on the hard in Peakes Yacht Services in Chaguaramas, Trinidad. She is a solid bluewater cruiser ready to sail.

If you are keen to chat let me know.

Re: Anyone sailing to the Caribbean and want to sell their boat?

Hi,
I am looking to buy a boat in the Med for the summer, and then wanting to sail to the Caribbean. I have a boat in Grenada (which I am not selling), but I do want to buy a boat in the Med for the summer months whilst the world is having spasms. One option could be to buy the boat you want (or you buy it) and I would be happy to deliver to you. I am a resident of the Cayman Islands, but currently locked out. One way or the other, I will buy a boat in the Med, and sail there this summer. The boat will either stay there as my summer boat, or I will sail to the Caribbean and sell her.
Let me know if this interests you.
